Benalmádena village is central to many attractions on the coast, and the main attraction is undoubtedly the village itself. It retains it's typical Andalucian character and charm, with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, and friendly locals. Even in the height of summer when the streets can be bustling with tourists, the village never loses it's relaxed atmosphere. It is the perfect place to experience the charm and tranquility of Spanish village life, while benefiting from the beaches and facilities of the Costa del Sol. There are plentiful restaurants and bars offering good value, and a variety of good food (including delicious local tapas). In the centre you will find the plaza, with the well known sculpture 'La nina de Benalmádena' as well as shops offering local arts and crafts. The village church is one of the most stunning on the Costa del Sol. It is popular among locals for wedding venues as well as being a must on the 'places to see' list for the tourist. The villagers are mainly spanish, with a mix of europeans who are lucky enough to find a property on this desirable area. Although English is often understood, it is always appreciated if you know a few of the basic Spanish phrases, and the locals are usually only too happy to engage in conversation and help you with your pronunciation. 'Benalmádena pueblo' a place to relax and enjoy the laid back atmosphere, although there are also plenty of local bars which all have a good following of locals and tourists alike. The cosmopolitan resorts of Torremolinos, Fuengirola, and Benalmadena Coast are all close by, and taxis are reasonably cheap should you wish to experiencing their night life. Malaga is only a 15 minute drive, and Marbella about 30 minutes. The village of Benalmádena is set back from the coast by approx. 1.5 km. There is a road directly to the beaches which is about a 25 min walk. This is all downhill, and so the return journey uphill does take a little longer. There is always the option of taking a taxi back to the village for a few euros. For more information on the local area : |
